Checkout This Throwback Story Of How An Entire Family Was Wiped Out In a Fatal Plane Crash

Sunday June 12 2012 is a day Nigerians won’t forget in a hurry,153 people died in one day when an aircraft belonging to Dana Airlines crashed in Lagos,I can’t forget that day personally.

The Super Eagles of Nigeria was playing Namibia in a crunch World cup qualifier match when the news filtered in that a plane had crashed in Lagos,it was not taken seriously until the names of those on board were released the next day,the name on the lips of everyone was that of the family of Anyene

Mr Onyeka Collins Anyene was from Anambra state and a lawyer in Nigeria who had offices in Lagos and Abuja and a devoted christian, his elder sister is the wife of former vice president Alex Ekwueme while his wife Maimuna hailed from Zaria and graduated from the University of Ibadan.

She was a devout Muslim, their union was one that was founded out of pure love despite their religious differences, even when members of both families were against their Union, they went ahead and got married,it was a case of Romeo and Juliet, the kind of love only seen in movies, their union was blessed with four lovely kids, the eldest son named Kamsi who was just three years old at the time.

They had female twins named Kaiyen and Karma aged 3 and also a baby in hand named Noah aged just 5 months old,it is so pitiable that after they have gone this far, they all perished in the ill fated crash on that day

The wife of Collins was based in Connecticut in the United States at the time with the kids while her husband frequently visit his family over there, but this time, she had come to Nigeria to visit her husband and also to attend the marriage of her younger brother named Ndako, little did she know that it was a journey of no return.

What is even more baffling was the revelation that followed after the crash of the Dana airline,it was revealed that the aircraft have outlived its usefulness, that is to say it was no longer safe for usage, but the said airline went ahead to purchase the same craft and put the lives of innocent people at risk, although it is now a thing of the past,it is good to revisit issues like this to avoid the repeat of something similar

On the day of the crash, she had boarded the plane alongside her husband, four children, her sister, two of her cousins and her mother in law making them nine in number, none could live to tell the story of what really transpired.

At exactly 17 minutes after the plane took off from Abuja heading to Lagos, the flight crew noticed an abnormality in the engine, the crew acted on impulse without following associated procedures and what followed next was a bang, the plane descended rapidly into the Iju Ishaga neighbourhood in Lagos killing all 153 people on board and killing 6 others who were at the site of the crash.

It was indeed a gory site to behold, tears flowed freely as it was tagged a Black Sunday at the time, upon the death of the 153 people on board the plane a three days national mourning was declared by then Nigeria president Goodluck Jonathan,it seems like a period of sober reflection for Nigerians

It was a rain of tears in Anambra on the day of the burial,as the casket of the wife and cousins headed to the northern part of the country, that of himself and his four children were brought in two ambulances to the beautiful edifice he built in his hometown.

The sight of the caskets alone could make one cry to death if possible,an entire family was wiped out in one day,in his hometown,he was described as a philanthropist who took the problem of other people as his own, true to the saying that says Good people never last long, they have been dead for eight years now,but we remember them today now and always
